Lighting Straight fluorescent -> integrated LED

Switching from fluorescent lamps to latest LED

The manufacturing, import, and export of fluorescent lamps will be banned by the end of 2027.

At the 5th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Minamata Convention on Mercury held in 2023, it was agreed to phase out the manufacture, import, and export of fluorescent lamps by the end of 2027, as they contain trace amounts of mercury.

Maintenance lamps are becoming increasingly difficult to obtain. Please take this opportunity to upgrade to LEDs!

Lamp life and why to replace the whole fixture

It is easy to assume that "as long as you replace it with an LED lamp, the lighting fixture can be used forever," but this is a major misconception. Unlike long-lasting LED lamps, the fixture body and various internal components such as ballasts, sockets, and wiring inevitably deteriorate (due to aging) with years of use.
Generally, the appropriate replacement period for lighting fixtures is considered to be about 10 years. After 10 years, the failure rate of internal components rises sharply, and if use continues beyond 15 years, there is an increased risk of serious accidents such as smoke, fire, electric shock, or falling lamps.
Even if there are no abnormalities in appearance, internal deterioration is progressing. Therefore, to use electricity safely for a long time, it is recommended to replace the entire lighting fixture every 10 years or so, rather than just replacing the lamp.

Replacing lighting fixtures that have been used for more than 10 years with LEDs increases the risk of serious accidents due to aging and deterioration.

Because LED lamps differ in structure and electrical characteristics from traditional incandescent and fluorescent lamps, compatibility with lighting fixtures is extremely important. Incorrectly using incompatible lamps poses a risk of causing serious accidents such as smoke emission and fires. Furthermore, lighting fixture manufacturers' product warranties are premised on the use of specified lamps, so replacing them with incompatible LED lamps will void the warranty itself. It is a misconception to think that simply replacing the lamp allows you to continue using the lighting fixture as-is for a long time; when making a replacement, it is extremely important to thoroughly check the specifications of the fixture and the precautions indicated by the manufacturer in advance.

Accidents caused by improper installation have been confirmed when replacing fluorescent lamps with LED lamps while keeping the existing lighting fixtures.

3 benefits of switching to LED

Cut CO2 emissions!

If a light bulb consumes less power, the amount of carbon dioxide produced by thermal power generation and other sources will be relatively reduced. This cuts CO₂ emissions and contributes to the prevention of global warming.

Long life, low maintenance!

LEDs require no replacement for long periods, dramatically reducing on-site stress and significantly cutting inventory management costs.

Lower electricity costs!

LEDs consume less power than fluorescent lamps, and it is not uncommon for lighting costs to be reduced by up to about 50 to 70 percent. Facilities with longer operating hours can even recover their initial investment within a few years.
